GREAT Wakering Rovers manager Iain O’Connell said he is very pleased with his summer business after adding some impressive names to his squad.

Rovers, who were relegated to the Essex Senior League last season, are looking to bounce back at the first time of asking.

And O’Connell has bolstered his squad with some signings from the Isthmian North.

Tilbury pair Joe Nightingill and Jimmy Cook move from Chadfields to Burroughs Park.

While midfielder Aaron Russell makes the move after playing a bit-part role at Bowers & Pitsea last season.

And O’Connell said he was very pleased with his recruitment.

“It was a really good night in terms of securing guys for next season,” he said.

“I have made some good signings, including Joe Nightingill, Aaron Russell and Jimmy Cook.

“I have also brought in Charlie Kirby and Bradley Nobbs, who will be very good additions for us.

“Jimmy and Joe were high up on the list of players I wanted to sign. They are strong players and have the right attitude.

“Aaron is a huge signing. He works hard and is a talented player.”

Rovers have also retained the services of Ricky Evans, Scott Pethers, Jason Ring, Nicki Beale, Steven Butterworth, Matt Belcher, Billy Johnson and Harley Kee.

Neil Richmond will work as a player/coach.

And O’Connell admits he is excited to get back underway.

“It is great to retain some of the key players from last season,” he said.

“Bealey is 35 and I have never seen him any fitter, while this is the first time I have ever seen Scouse (Butterworth) in pre-season and he looks sharp.

“I am so pleased. I am focusing on the football side of things and we are getting our act together.”
