GILLINGHAM manager Ady Pennock has heaped praise on trialist Liam Nash after he continued to impress while on trial at the League One club.

The 21-year-old from Hullbridge has featured in recent pre-season friendlies for the Gills, scoring twice in a win over Chatham Town on Tuesday.

And Pennock admits Nash, who scored 37 goals for Maldon & Tiptree last season, would offer ‘something different’ if he was to sign him.

“He is training well and in the games he has been involved in he has done exceptionally well,” Pennock told a Kent media outlet.

“We will see on that one.

“He is a good boy, something different. When you get trialists in, you want them to impress and that is what he has done.

“When someone scores over 40 goals in one season, it doesn’t matter what level it is.

“If you can score for Maldon or in the Premier League, if you can score 40 goals you are a natural.

“He looks a natural but we will see.”

Nash has also played for Billericay Town, Aveley, Great Wakering Rovers and Hullbridge Sports - and has been a perennial goalscorer during recent seasons.

He has been widely praised on social media, having scored an audacious ‘Panenka’ penalty on Tuesday.

One Gills supporter wrote on Twitter: “Liam Nash is quality. I know it wasn’t great opposition but for a trialist he has so much confidence. No brainer to sign him in my opinion.”
