CONCORD Rangers manager Adam Flanagan admitted he expects more from certain players after watching Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Margate.

The Kent side were deserved winners against the Beach Boys, who started a number of trialists looking to win a deal for the upcoming season.

And Flanagan said, while the result wasn’t important, the performance level was.

“Results don’t matter but performance levels need to be at the required level and they weren’t in the first half,” he said.

“We didn’t hold the ball well in forward positions and we played at a slow pace and there were some poor performances from players I expect more from.

“It got marginally better in the second half but I have better expectations.

“Margate are a good side and had more experience in several of their players than we did in our squad and they will be a strong team in the Isthmian Premier League next season.”

Flanagan now has two pre-season friendlies remaining before the National League South opener against Wealdstone on Saturday, August 5.

Trips to Canvey Island and Barnet on Tuesday and Saturday will held shape Flanagan’s squad for the new season.

And he said he has some decisions to make in the coming days.

“I will tweak some things,” he said.

“We have some new players in the team and I need to see who will fit into the way we play and buy into what Concord Rangers is all about.

“I have told the squad I will be cutting the numbers and I need to do that in the coming days.

“Most of the starting eleven have signed forms and there are some very good players in the team.

“There are also very technically gifted players with good pedigree and backgrounds that may not fit into the way we play, and I saw that some didn’t fit the bill against Margate.

“But we are not far away from having a completed squad,” he added.

“There are still a few areas I have concerns about but player movement is settling down now, which is important.

“We will keep on working to improve and as and when players become available in the early weeks of the season we may move on that.”

Flanagan confirmed that Jordan Chiedozie had not yet found a new club as he continues his rehabilitation from knee surgery.
