JAMIE O’Hara says Billericay Town fans will see the best of him this year as he looks to help guide them to the Isthmian Premier League title.

The former Premier League midfielder linked up with Town in March, following a spell out of the game.

O’Hara, 30, became the first professional football to compete in Celebrity Big Brother at the start of the year, before joining Glenn Tamplin’s revolution at Billericay.

He says he feels in excellent shape in the early weeks of pre-season, having spent time working under coach Harry Wheeler and nutritionist Neil Grove.

And the former Tottenham Hotspur, Wolves and Fulham midfielders likened the preparation to training at a professional club.

“It is no different to training at a professional club,” he said.

“What Glenn has done over the summer is remarkable and Paul (Konchesky) and I keep saying it is so professional.

“The main different is we aren’t doing it every day. Neil (Grove) is different class and he is going to such lengths to help us all out in terms of what we eat and how we diet.

“And Harry’s coaching is second to none so the team is making great progress.

“I have been training well. I worked hard over the summer to be in the best shape I could be ahead of pre-season.

“I wasn’t that fit last year. I was on Big Brother and hadn’t played for a long while so I wasn’t where I wanted to be, although I did score probably the best goal of my career (against Enfield Town).

“I was pleased to captain the team last year and in the Ryman LLLeague Cup final and I want to achieve more.

“I want to show everyone that I will be a big part of what this club wants to achieve.”

O’Hara has played at the likes of Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and Anfield across a professional career that has spanned more than 200 matches.

But he admits the changes being implemented at the club, including new stands, seating, and VIP areas for supporters, are hugely impressive.

And O’Hara added he had spoken to Tamplin about the steps the club was taking when he linked up with them earlier this season.

“The changes that have been made to this club are astronomical,” he said. ”It is huge.

“I spoke with Glenn when I joined and I said that the biggest thing for me was building the right foundations.

“It is all very well getting the good players in but you need to build from the bottom.

“That is being done here. From the kit to the physio, Glenn has it bang on and I hope things continue in this way.”

Following his appearance on Big Brother, O’Hara has been linked with other high-profile TV shows, including Dancing on Ice.

But he insists football will come before any other opportunities.

“The football will come first, of course,” he said.

“It is number one for me and I don’t want to let anyone at Billericay down.

“I am privileged to be part of it and it is huge for Essex and I am excited for the new season.”
