CONCORD Rangers defeated rivals Canvey Island 3-0 in their penultimate pre-season friendly before the start of the new season.

The National League South Beach Boys were too much for Canvey, two divisions their inferior, at the Frost Financial Stadium.

A Jordan Cox hat-trick proved his fitness, with the forward getting off the mark inside three minutes with a deflected effort.

David Knight sent several efforts narrowly off target for Canvey, before Cox guided a header into the top corner to double the visitors’ lead on the half hour.

Kyron Farrell crossed for the striker to complete his treble with 25 minutes to play and that was how it ended.

Billericay Town were pegged back in their latest friendly, as Heybridge Swifts came from behind to earn a 3-3 draw.

Swifts, who struggled in the Isthmian North last term, bounced back from 3-1 down to boost their preparation.

Town fell behind after just seven minutes, before Jake Robinson scored the equaliser midway through the half.

Rob Davies scored a free-kick to put Town ahead shortly before half-time and Charlie Cole added a third on the hour mark.

But Heybridge didn’t give up and were gifted a route back into the match on 72 minutes when they converted a penalty.

And it was all square three minutes from time, as the match ended level.
