ADAM Flanagan hopes Concord Rangers’ emphatic victory in the FA Cup will inspire a turnaround in form.

Saturday’s 4-0 win against Tonbridge Wells in the second qualifying round ended a run of six straight defeats in the National League South.

And Flanagan was pleased his team were able to put aside their league struggles and secure their place in the next round.

“Saturday’s game was an important fixture for many reasons so to get a win was pleasing,” he said, following what was his first victory in the competition as Concord boss.

“There is nothing like a good FA Cup run and hopefully after two poor performances in this competition in previous years (to AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Wingate & Finchley) we can have a more productive one this time around and get some excitement around the place.

“It was good to see those players that haven’t featured recently get an opportunity all of whom performed to a high level.

“I was also pleased to give our youth captain Jed Smith his first senior start,” he added.

“I felt Jed looked very accomplished and he is now the ninth player to come through the youth team and play a part of a first team fixture.

“This should be something the club is very proud of and is a testament to the strength of the youth set up at the club.”

The match also saw the amount of Concord goalscorers more than double for the season.

Only Jordan Cox, Steve Cawley and Lewis Taaffe had found the net before the match.

But Khale Da Costa, Lewis Knight, Billy Roast and Kyron Farrell were all on target at the weekend, which pleased Flanagan.

“Looking at our league form, only three players have scored to date so to have four different players score in one match was definitely a positive and it is something we need to bring into our league games now.

“The manner of goals we scored was pleasing too, with Billy Roast and Lewis Knight scoring two of the best goals I have seen recently at home.

“I also felt we needed to keep a clean sheet so I was pleased with this and similarly we need to increase on these in the league now as well.”

A home draw against Isthmian Premier League side Dorking Wanderers was Concord’s prize for qualifying.

But Flanagan is taking nothing for granted.

“The cup draw looks favourable with us being at home and playing a team from a league below but, as last weekend would have showed, the FA Cup is renowned for upsets.

“Teams lower in the pyramid can go to clubs higher up and beat them so nothing will be taken for granted.

“We will need to be at our best on the day against what will be a very difficult Dorking side, I am sure.”
