BILLERICAY Town defender Kevin Foley has admitted that making the first round of the FA Cup would be ‘massive for the club’.

Brackley Town salvaged a 3-3 draw to force a replay at the AGP Arena after scoring an equaliser in the dying moments of the fourth qualifying round tie.

But Foley, who has a vast amount of FA Cup experience under his belt, is confident that Glenn Tamplin’s side can overcome their National League North counterparts when they clash once again tonight.

The former Republic of Ireland international said: “If we get through to the first round of the FA Cup, we would have played four rounds to get there.

“I am used to playing in the first, second and third round ties so this has been a different experience for me, but I have really enjoyed it.

“Beating Brackley and getting into the first round would be massive for the club, supporters, manager and players.”

Adam Cunnington notched two goals, while Louie Theophanous was also on target at St James’ Park on Saturday.

But Tamplin’s charges were unable to make their one-man advantage count after Alex Gudger was dismissed for the hosts on the verge of half-time.

However, Foley is confident Billericay can see off their opponents at the second time of asking.

The ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers defender added: “We have done well in the last few replays we have had, but they are a step above all of them teams.

“It is going to be a tough game but hopefully we will go into it with a bit of confidence.

“We didn’t make a good start at the weekend but when they had a man sent off we knew we had to up our game.

“We scored some good goals but they pegged us back twice and it wasn’t to be on the day.”

Foley, 32, has been heavily involved in the FA Cup since first turning professional with Luton Town in 2002.

Spells with Wolves, Blackpool, Ipswich Town, Charlton Athletic and Coventry City have followed, along with a spell in Danish football with FC Copenhagen.

But one FA Cup match sticks out in the memory of Foley.

“The match that springs to mind is when I was with Luton and we played Liverpool at Kenilworth Road in the third round,” confirmed Foley, who has eight international caps to his name.

“We went 3-1 up against the European champions but ended up losing 5-3.

“I remember trying to get back to stop Xabi Alonso’s goal from the halfway line, but I cramped up a bit I think and couldn’t stop it.”
