CONCORD Rangers boss Adam Flanagan says it is important his side concentrate on getting points on the board after being knocked out of the FA Cup in heartbreaking circumstances.

The Beach Boys earned a fourth qualifying round replay against Woking after securing a 1-1 draw in the initial tie.

But a 118th minute winner ended Concord’s hopes of welcoming League One side Bury to the Aspect Arena in the first round of the competition.

And Flanagan is now concentrating on winning National League South games after the Beach Boys’ exit from the FA Cup.

The Concord chief said: “Performances in the league this year, overall, haven’t been too bad considering our league position.

“We have perhaps lacked a cutting edge in the final third, which I feel Femi Akinwande and Ben Greenhalgh will now bring.

“I would rather have points over performance so that’s the challenge for the group in the upcoming weeks.”

Regan Charles-Cook gave Woking a seventh minute lead at the Aspect Arena, but the home side hit back as Akinwande, who recently joined following his departure from National League South rivals East Thurrock United, levelled.

The tie went to extra-time and it looked as though penalties would be needed to determine who would progress in the competition.

But Charlie Carter hit the winner for the visitors with just two minutes remaining to bring the Beach Boys’ run in the FA Cup to a cruel end.

And Flanagan was delighted with the effort of his players over the course of the two games.

Flanagan added: “I was very pleased with the performance, especially in the second half when we were the better team.

“I felt gutted for the players as they had put so much into the performances, which I felt deserved some reward.

“I think the further you go in the FA Cup can sometimes effect you in the league, especially with teams who have a small squad like ours.

“But I would still have liked for us to have remained in the competition as that brings a lot of excitement and equally can help improve performances.”

Concord will now turn their attentions back to the National League South once again this weekend.

The Beach Boys are currently second from bottom in the standings, and welcome Weston-super-Mare to the Aspect Arena on Saturday, who are just above the drop zone.
