Barking 1-0 Canvey Island
(Seymour 21’)
From Mayesbrook Park
Isthmian North
CANVEY Island slipped up once again in their Isthmian North promotion bid as a single goal saw Barking claim victory.
The Gulls started well and could have been awarded an early advantage. However, the referee adjudged George Sykes had not been fouled inside the penalty area.
Ryan Charles headed over the bar before Barking took the lead with their first real chance of the afternoon.
Former Billericay man Abs Seymour’s free-kick was too hot for Ashlee Jones to handle, with the away players protesting the initial award of the set-piece.
Canvey were the better team in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but they were again left frustrated by the referee. Mitchell Gilbey looked as though he had been pushed over inside the box, but nothing was given.
Frankie Merrifield was kept out and the final chance of the afternoon was to fall to Jerrome Sobers, but his effort was off target.
Canvey Island: Jones, Pitty, Dumas, Craddock, Sobers, Sheehan, Collins (Norman 72’), Merrifield, Gilbey (Walker 72’), Sykes, Charles
