BILLERICAY Town missed the chance to go top of the Isthmian Premier League as they were forced to come from behind twice to draw at home with Merstham.

It was a ponderous start to the game for both teams, although Billericay almost took the lead out of nothing when Dean Inman headed against the post.

Jake Robinson shot straight at Merstham stopper Chris Haigh, with Adam Cunnington and Sam Deering kept out by the keeper as the half went on.

And Merstham went ahead on the stroke of half-time with their second attempt on target. Andre McCollin curled beyond the despairing dive of Alan Julian.

But there was still enough time for Town to hit back. Two minutes later Cunnington powered home to level the scores at the break - Billericay's 100th goal this campaign.

Josh Urquhart and Alex Assai exchanged chances on either side before Billericay fell behind for a second time.

McCollin put Merstham ahead midway through the half but back came Billericay.

Cunnington headed in Deering’s free-kick to level matters, with the striker putting his next header over the crossbar.

Despite several late half chances the winner wasn’t forthcoming as Merstham became the first side since Kingstonian on the opening day of term to take something away from The AGP Arena in the league.
