CALUM Butcher says he is looking forward to the challenge of the next three months after joining Billericay Town on loan from League Two side Mansfield Town.
The 26-year-old midfielder has played for Millwall and Mansfield already this term and is unable to join a third Football League club this term, in accordance with EFL guidelines.
And Rochford-born Butcher, who attended Belfairs High School, says he is excited about the months ahead.
“I am really happy to be here and grateful for the opportunity,” he said. “The rules sort of killed a move to a League club and it turned out that Billericay was the best option for me.
“It is a club going in the right direction and I spoke to a few people about it before I made a decision and I am looking forward to getting going.”
Town coach Danny Hazle was instrumental in making the deal happen - with he and Butcher both good friends of former Town captain Gary Howard.
And he said Billericay were delighted to land the former Southend United youth product.
“We are very fortunate to land someone of Calum’s stature,” said Hazle. “A few League clubs wanted him but because of the League rules he has made this move.
“He wants to help us win the league this season and it is a massive signing and statement of intent.”
Butcher has made 22 appearances this season, scoring two goals, with his last game coming against Morecambe on December 23, 2017.
