CONCORD Rangers suffered their fourth successive defeat as St Albans City secured a 2-1 win at a snowy Aspect Arena.

Khale Da Costa’s late goal proved to be merely a consolation as Harvey Bradbury and Zane Banton’s efforts resulted in the Beach Boys remaining just three points above the National League South drop zone.

The fixture was only given the go ahead following a pitch inspection by referee Jack Packman shortly after midday.

And the first meaningful opportunity of the encounter fell to Femi Akinwande on 18 minutes.

The striker, who had already caused the visitors problems due to his strength, pounced on a defensive error but Dean Snedker made a smart save and smothered the ball before Andy Freeman could turn home the rebound.

However, St Albans should have taken the lead midway through the first half when Banton was found in acres of space, but the winger’s effort ballooned over the crossbar.

Da Costa went down under the challenge of Kieran Monlouis, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Da Costa forced Snedker into a good save after an impressive Beach Boys move involving Akinwande, Freeman and Ben Greenhalgh, while Amos Nasha saw a shot blocked from the resulting corner.

Freeman was then denied after using good strength to hold off several St Albans challenges.

Concord goalkeeper Louis Wells was required to stop Shaun Lucien’s free kick giving the away side the lead 10 minutes before the break.

And the home shot-stopper made a good diving save to keep Bradbury at bay just moments later.

Akinwande passed up a presentable opportunity five minutes before the break. The striker beat the offside trap and instead of going for goal early, Akinwande cut inside and scuffed his shot, allowing Snedker to make a comfortable save.

Wells stopped a close range strike from Banton as the two sides went in at the interval on level terms.

However, Saints broke the deadlock just five minutes after the interval as Bradbury headed home a deep cross from Tom Bender.

Greenhalgh latched onto a poor St Albans clearance, but sent his strike over the crossbar as Adam Flanagan’s charges looked to get back into the game.

Substitutes Lewis Taaffe and Steve Cawley combined well shortly after coming off the bench in the place of Freeman and Akinwande, but Cawley’s low strike was blocked by the feet of Snedker.

And no-one was there to convert Da Costa’s dangerous pass across the face of goal seconds later.

Wells denied Bradbury a second of the afternoon when the Beach Boys’ custodian blocked the frontman’s low attempt.

But Wells could only watch as Banton’s deflected strike found the corner of the net with just nine minutes to play.

Da Costa found the far corner to halve the deficit with just a few minutes left, while Lewis Knight fired high and wide when well placed as time ran out and Concord’s losing run was extended.
