ROB Small believes Bowers & Pitsea have completed some ‘phenomenal business’ after recruiting four new players for their squad.

The headline additions are former East Thurrock United pair Max Cornhill and Ryan Sammons, both of whom have numerous seasons of National League South football under their belts.

Former Billericay Town, Canvey Island and Grays Athletic defender Richard Halle also makes the move, as does Norwich United goalkeeper Andy Wilton.

And the Bowers chief says the signings have given him plenty of reasons to be optimistic ahead of the new campaign.

“What can I say but phenomenal business,” said Small. “In Sammons and Cornhill not only have we found two players that are terrific footballers with huge pedigree but two excellent men as well.

“They have a great desire to play football and we are not the sort of club where players can see out their career but somewhere where we will be squeezing every last drop out of players. They are excited by that.

“I have wanted Richard Halle for two years. I missed out on him twice and it is a case of third time lucky. He is a terrific player and brings a wealth of experience.

“After we lost John Easterford (to a player/assistant manager post at Brentwood Town), we needed a leader and we have got one.

“I didn’t think Andy would become available but it turns out he relocated last summer and out of loyalty he stayed at Norwich, despite living in Essex.

“Following their relegation he wanted to play closer to home. He is a very good keeper and similar to (former stopper) Callum (Chafer), who we brought in from Romford. He wants to prove himself and feels he has a score to settle. He has fire in his belly and I like that.”
