HARRY Wheeler says he is pleased Billericay Town will start the season with a long trip to Truro City.

Town’s first match back in the second tier is a 660 mile round trip to Cornwall on Saturday, August 4.

Three days later is a home match against neighbours Concord Rangers before Wealdstone - who defeated Town in the FA Trophy last term - make the trip to the AGP Arena on the second weekend.

And Wheeler, who was appointed first team manager at the end of the season after guiding Town to success on three fronts, said he was pleased with the fixtures.

“You can’t say whether it is good or bad really as you have to play everyone but I am happy with it,” said Wheeler. “The travelling is a factor and it can be a pain in the middle of the season. It is the best time to make the trip.

“Concord at home in the second match is another exciting one for us. It will be good to get the crowds going with a win but they have recruited well in the summer and it will be tough. We will look forward to it.

“We want to beat Wealdstone for obvious reasons after our FA Trophy exit last year but we can start making plans now.

“We have a double-header against Chelmsford over Christmas which will be good tests for us. That will be one of the hardest games of the season.

“For myself, I live in St Albans so that will be an easy away trip but Torquay and Woking will be good away days as well.”
