WE got a 1-0 victory against Wealdstone at the weekend and it was a good benchmark for us.

It’s a tough league and we ground it out against a team I expect to be up there come the end of the season. We never expected it to be easy but we backed ourselves and we took the win.

The most pleasing aspect for me was the team’s resilience. When it is not going your way you need to keep going and we kept that clean sheet. I have said before that clean sheets will win titles and it was a real plus for me.

We needed both Alan Julian and Louis Wells to keep that clean sheet after Jules went off with a thigh strain. We sat down the day before and decided to put Louis on the bench and it was the first time this season we had a keeper on there so we had a bit of luck.

It takes a lot of mental strength and a good attitude to come off the bench and make an impact and Louis’ late save was very important.

We play Welling United tonight and we know they are a good attacking side that are aggressive. (Coach) Tristan (Lewis) was there before and I was as well, so we are both looking forward to it.

They are a good team and they want to get promoted as well. I don’t think we expect to win but we believe we can.

I will want to keep it as tight as possible there and for as long as possible this season. We are playing it game by game and not losing sight of what we want to achieve. I would say the league is progressing as we would expect in terms of those we thought would be up there are. Although I am sure some will make a late charge for places.

The squad is looking good and while a couple of younger players will go out on loan, the experienced players will remain.

Glenn has been back on the touchline in the last two games and he has a positive influence and energy in the dressing room. It has worked well so far and has been like old times. Long may it continue.
