LOOKING AHEAD: Great Wakering Rovers manager Garry Kimble is not wasting time when it comes to wielding the axe.

The new chief said after last weekend’s 3-0 defeat against Romford that any players that fall below the required fitness levels will be let go.

Since then, Jamie Salmon and Jacob Cleaver have left the club.

Things are likely to get more difficult this weekend when Rovers begin their home campaign against Felixstowe & Walton United.

Although newcomers to the division, Felixstowe are fancied to challenge for the play-off positions this term.

Great Wakering will be determined to address the wrongs of their opening day defeat sooner rather than later.

MANAGER’S VIEW: “There was definitely reason to be optimistic despite last Saturday’s defeat,” said Kimble. “We moved the ball around well but the end product and finishing wasn’t good enough. We conceded twice early and while I was slightly disheartened by the scoreline I wasn’t overall.

“We had a friendly in the week and although we lost it was a good workout.

“Felixstowe are big and strong but if we can match them in terms of desire and commitment we can get a result.

“They are pretty well resourced and have a good following. We are both unknown quantities but I hope we come out on top.”

TEAM NEWS: Striker Jay Nash is doubtful.
