I ONLY just missed out on being involved against Gillingham on Tuesday night and hope to be contention for this weekend’s game with Plymouth Argyle.

I would again describe my chances of playing as 50/50.

But if I train tomorrow then I’m sure I’ll be OK to get back on the pitch.

It was only right at the end of my fitness test on Tuesday that I again suffered some discomfort with my groin but I’m hoping that rather than it being another setback it was just a message from my body to stop me from being stupid.

I guess I was trying to rush back because I wanted to play but you have to be sensible about these things.

I would imagine I would have another fitness test before the weekend and, in these, the physiotherapist will put you through a series of specific movements relating to what position you play.

As a centre forward I will have to do lots of short, sharp sprints and change direction after jumping for headers which is how I did the injury in the first place.

I did the one on Tuesday along with Bilel Mohsni and, towards the end, we were just passing the ball to each other and that’s when my groin started to hurt again so we decided then that I couldn’t be involved.

I had to watch from the stands and it was fantastic to see the lads dig in to get the three points, especially after going down to 10 men.

It was a very positive result and it showed what can happen when you really get stuck in.

I think the fans saw that and really started to get behind us which gave the lads a few more per cent which in turn led to us scoring the goal.

We will now want to build on that against Plymouth and it’s a massive match for us.

There a lot of connections between the two clubs with Paul Sturrock, Graham Coughlan, Peter Gilbert, Blair Sturrock, Chris Barker and Ryan Leonard having all been involved with Plymouth at some stage and we will be wanting to make it two successive wins to push us back in to the play-off places.

It’s sad to see what’s happening with Plymouth at the moment and I really do feel for their fans.

But we have to be professional, while not taking them lightly, when we play them this weekend.

After that game the boys will again all be jumping in to ice baths, which is something we do after every training session and match.

It’s basically a dustbin full of ice we all have to go in and some of us prefer it more than others.

Kane Ferdinand, Anthony Grant, Lee Sawyer and Ryan Hall aren’t too keen but us older players can see how it benefits our recovery.

However, rather disturbingly this week, Blair Sturrock and Barry Corr took to sharing their ice bath while naked but they were back to back!

We’re also still growing our beards to raise awareness and money for the Breast Cancer Care charity.

Myself and Harry Crawford definitely have the most ginger beards, Barks had the most grey and our media manager David Scriven, who is also joining in, looks most like a tramp!

Lee Sawyer isn’t doing it because he probably can’t grow a beard and he celebrated his birthday last week.

He still hasn’t come in with the cakes but I understand he had a great time on the day with his mates at McDonalds!

On a more serious note, I would like to finish off this week by saying congratulations, on behalf of all the lads, to Glenn Morris on becoming a father for the first time.

His wife has given birth to a little girl called Maisie and we’re all delighted for the Morris family.
