BOWERS & Pitsea strolled to a win at home to Sawbridgeworth Town in a game where the margin of victory could quite easily have been double figures, writes Darren Scorey.

A brace apiece for Bowers’ goal machine Calvin Poku and Bradley Warner saw them record their first win of the season in emphatic fashion.

Warner opened the scoring on three minutes when he robbed the ball from a defender and slotted home.

Bowers increased the pressure but had to wait until the 41st minute for Poku to double the score and he increased his tally to 10 for the season two minutes later.

Poor marking allowed to Sawbo to pull a goal back in the 47th minute through Scott Williams.

But that just spurred Bowers into a majestic spell where chance after chance forced Bert Greenwood in the visitors’ goal to pull of many fine saves.

Callum Leahy added a fourth for Bowers 10 minutes from time. And that opened the floodgates as Georgie Shelvey - recently signed from Southend Manor - added a fifth, before Warner completed the rout in the 89th minute.

Sawbridgeworth’s James Whitbread rounded the scoring off with a consolation goal with the last kick off the game.

But it was a disappointing afternoon for Great Wakering in the division as they went down 2-0 at Bethnal Green United.

Anton Stephenson and Ashley Douglas were on target for the hosts in the first half.

And Hullbridge Sports’ unbeaten start to the league campaign was ended with a 2-1 defeat at home to Eton Manor.

All the goals came in the second half at Lower Road, with Jack Leachman and Chetin Ali putting Eton Manor 2-0 up before Sam Taylor scored for the hosts with 10 minutes remaining.
