GREAT Wakering came from behind at home to Halstead Town to book their place in the next round of the county cup.

Dan Sakal gave the visitors to Burroughs Park the lead on 42 minutes, but in-form Luca Frankis drew the hosts level three minutes after the break.

Rovers skipper Lewis Sparrow put them in front and Frankis made it 3-1 before Halstead pulled one back through Ellis Carter.

But any hopes of a comeback were dashed 10 minutes from time when two goals in quick succession from Jay Nash and then Julian Simon-Parsons wrapped up a 5-2 win for Dan Trenkel’s side.

Hullbridge Sports also booked their spot in today’s third round draw with a 4-1 win at home to Saffron Walden Town.

A first-half brace from in-form Alex Collisson, a 52nd minute strike from Rob Hodgson, and a 90th minute goal from Jimmy Cox sealed a fine win for Sports.

And Basildon United bounced back from Saturday’s 4-0 league defeat at Eton Manor with a 3-1 county cup victory at home to Stansted.

And, like Wakering, the Bees had to come from 1-0 down after Tyrone White fired the Airport men into a 16th minute lead.

Former Canvey man Tarkan Mustafa’s 24th minute goal made it 1-1 at the interval, and a brace from Jamie Williams put John Higley’s side through.
