It was a great feeling to beat Bury Town 4-2 on Saturday afternoon after the disappointment of seven days earlier.

I thought our players were excellent and the contribution of Jamie Dicks and Lewis Clark off the substitutes’ bench to play a big hand in goals shows how fortunate we are to have such strength in depth in our group.

Despite dominating the action in front of goal, we were made to work after a crazy five minute spell where we conceded twice in quick succession.

Both the goals they scored were excellent and fair play to Bury for taking advantage of our sloppiness.

Bury were on their last chance saloon to drag themselves into the play-off mix and our boys did well to nullify their threat.

At that point it looked like we might blow a three goal lead and the damage that could have caused worried me.

Thankfully, the boys dragged themselves off the floor to take control back in the game.

All we can do is do our business and see where that leaves us after 46 matches.

We could win all our remaining games and still not get automatic promotion, so I am focused on the other teams. Whoever finishes second will deserve that.

In a day where most of the chasing pack won, it was a big three points. We can sit back now and watch another midweek of games in hand play out and see what happens.

In the FA Trophy, it was great to see East Thurrock and Billericay remain in the competition despite tough away draws.

I’m sure both managers enjoyed being part of the quarter-final draw but the reality in that situation is you need to not think any further ahead than the replays tonight.

Fingers crossed both our clubs can get through and look forward to big quarter-finals.
