TOM Ranger says he would love to play a part for Concord Rangers in the final months of the season.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been working has way back from a serious blood clot injury that has kept him out of football for the best part of two years.

He made a long-awaited return for Hullbridge Sports at the end of last year, playing a number of games in the Essex Senior League for the club he first joined when he was just five-years-old.

But he is now back in training with Concord, who he joined back in November 2015.

“It is great to be back playing with Concord,” said Ranger, after he made a late substitute appearance in last Saturday’s 2-1 win against Eastbourne Borough.

“Flan [Concord manager Adam Flanagan] has always been very helpful and wanted me to go to training even when I had the blood clot.

“I wanted to get the feel for playing and get the love back so it was good to get some minutes at Hullbridge. But I kept getting knocks and it was so frustrating and I couldn’t train because of it.

“I went back to Concord to train for the first time about a month ago and thought I would find it really hard, but I felt really good. I had a really positive session and I am looking forward now.”

Ranger - who was only able to make three substitute appearances before the diagnosis - is having a re-scan on his groin next month, where he hopes to be given the all-clear.

And he says he is determined to make the most of the final months of the season.

“I really want to get some more minutes as the season goes on, whether that be at Concord or on loan at another club,” said Ranger.

“All I am really lacking at the moment is match fitness. It was great to step in and help Concord last weekend. They were a few players light and I was more than pleased to play a part.

“The environment at Concord is different to anything I have experienced before. It is so quick and the players are great.

“There is no reason we can’t have a really good end to the season.”
