BILLERICAY Town are through to the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy after securing a 3-2 win over Harrogate Town in their third round replay.

The Isthmian Premier League leaders will host Wealdstone, of the National League South, in the last eight despite playing more than 20 minutes with 10 men following Calum Butcher’s sending off on his home debut.

Ricky Modeste, Jake Robinson and Adam Cunnington were on target for the hosts, while Simon Ainge scored from the penalty spot and Mark Beck got on the scoresheet for Harrogate.

The National League North side got off to a bright start, as Joe Leesley forced Rob Swaine into a superb block and Ainge headed wide of the target when well placed.

Central defender Ben Middleton should have done better when he headed a corner wide from close range, and that miss was to prove costly.

On 22 minutes, Billericay took the lead as Modeste raced onto Robinson’s flicked pass and fired into the back of the net.

And Robinson was to double the advantage 12 minutes later as his low effort from the edge of the penalty area found a way past visiting goalkeeper James Belshaw.

Harrogate reduced the arrears seven minutes before half-time as Ainge stepped up and sent his spot kick into the top corner of the net after being brought down.

However, Billericay restored their two-goal lead less than 10 minutes after the break.

Swaine, who netted in the initial clash between these two sides at the weekend, saw his close range header well saved by Belshaw. The visitors failed to clear the danger and Cunnington, who also scored on Saturday, sent a first time effort into the bottom corner of the net despite Belshaw’s best efforts.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, Butcher was dismissed on his home debut following his deadline day arrival.

Butcher was shown two yellow cards in the space of five minutes, with his second coming after a late challenge on Josh Falkingham.

Substitute Beck pulled a goal back with two minutes of the 90 remaining after meeting a Harrogate corner, but the 10 men were able to hold on and can now look forward to welcoming Wealdstone to the AGP Arena on Saturday, February 24.
