JERMAINE Pennant appears to be on his way out of Billericay Town.

The former Arsenal and Liverpool winger’s last appearance came in the Velocity Trophy victory against Wingate & Finchley on January 16.

Pennant, 35, has not featured in any of the four games since and was not in the squad for Billericay’s FA Trophy ties against Harrogate Town.

And head coach Harry Wheeler has now confirmed Pennant’s future is far from certain.

“Officially he still is a Billericay player, but I don’t know if he will be here much longer,” confirmed Wheeler.

“He has a few issues he needs to resolve but there is definitely a question mark over whether he will remain at the club.”

The news comes just five weeks after owner Glenn Tamplin said Pennant had agreed to take a pay cut to remain at the Isthmian Premier League title favourites.

Tamplin told the Echo: “I want to make the club sustainable.

“I am re-negotiating contracts for next year and the players will not be on what they are on this year.

“So, to be fair to Jermaine, he has agreed to take a wage cut and that is massive. He wants to be a Billericay player.”

Pennant also took to his Twitter account and said: “All the confusion and rumours but happy to say I’m still a Billericay player #BTFC.”

Pennant has struggled to win over the Billericay fans since making the shock move to the AGP Arena last August.

The winger, who played in the 2007 Champions League final for Liverpool, has featured 27 times for Town - including 21 starts - but has scored just once.

That came in the 4-0 win against Brightlingsea Regent on September 12.

Also absent in recent weeks has been owner and manager Tamplin.

Tamplin’s last appearance at a game was the 1-1 draw with Margate on January 6.

And Wheeler says he remains the head coach, citing the reason for Tamplin’s absence because of business commitments.

“Glenn has been working,” said Wheeler. “He has more than just one company, he is a very busy man. I am still head coach and I am fine with that.”
