BEN Sartain believes Cheshunt will be a ‘different animal’ under the management of Craig Edwards.

Former Billericay Town boss Edwards took over at the Hertfordshire club last month, with them rooted to the bottom of the Isthmian North.

It has coincided with an upturn in recent form, following Edwards’ month long spell with Ware before that.

A month was enough for Edwards to mastermind a 2-0 win against Bowers & Pitsea, and Sartain is determined not to suffer a similar reverse this time around.

“They are a different animal now, I am sure,” said Sartain, 24, who lives in Basildon. “Craig was only at Ware for a few games and he got some good results, including one against us.

“It is not as easy as just looking at the league table and predicting we will win. We just have to take it one game at a time and keep chalking off points. If we take our foot off the gas we will come unstuck, I am sure of that.

“We have been beaten by Ware and Norwich United and some teams near the bottom, but we are not underestimating Cheshunt tomorrow. Craig will have them well drilled and focused.”

Sartain has been a key player for Bowers since signing from Basildon United in the summer of 2016 and has started all but two of Bowers’ 40 games so far this season.

Bowers sit second in the division with a seven point gap over third placed Potters Bar Town, who have two games in hand.

And Sartain says each of Bowers’ last 13 matches will have individual significance as the club bids for a second promotion in three seasons.

“We have 13 games to go but know anyone can beat anyone,” he said. “We need to keep doing what we are doing and turn up every match and play to the best of our ability.

“I have played a lot of games this season but I feel fine. It is a long old season and I think everyone wants to play every week but, of course, that is down to the manager [Rob Small].

“There will be twists and turns. But we are only thinking about tomorrow at the moment.”

THE PREVIEW: Bowers & Pitsea face a tricky test in their promotion bid at fast-improving Cheshunt tomorrow.

Bowers have won five of their last six games and are strong favourites against the side currently propping up the Isthmian North.

But Cheshunt are a team on the up. Following a run of seven straight defeats Cheshunt appointed former Billericay Town manager Craig Edwards, who had only been appointed at Ware the previous month.

And the bottom-placed side are slowly making up ground in the standings.

Bowers have already been beaten by Edwards this term - with Ware winning 2-0 at the Len Salmon Stadium in December - and will be determined not to suffer a similar reverse.

MEN TO WATCH: Ricky Sappleton, Jason Hallett, Jake Lampe and Dave Collis are just a few familiar names in the Cheshunt side.

WHEN & WHERE: Tomorrow at 3pm at The Stadium, Theobalds Lane, Cheshunt, Waltham Cross, EN8 8RU.

WHAT THE BOSS SAID: “The mood in the camp is calm,” said boss Rob Small. “We’ve managed to learn to keep settled when things go well and not be too disappointed when they don’t. There is a long way to go and a lot of football to be played so we just take things as they come.

“Cheshunt are a tough opponent with a manager who will demand intense work rate from his players. Cheshunt will be a match for anyone between now and the end of the season.

“Craig knows what to expect from us at the weekend and we know, despite the league positions, we are an underdog away at Cheshunt.”
