MARTIN Tuohy admits he may have left Canvey Island too hastily after securing a move back to the Isthmian North promotion hopefuls.

The 33-year-old rejoins from Barking having previously made 80 appearances and scored 34 goals before leaving last season.

Tuohy climbed off the substitutes’ bench for the final 10 minutes of Saturday’s 2-1 victory against Maldon & Tiptree in the Isthmian North.

And he says he has promotion on his mind with 14 games of the season remaining.

“It is good to be back,” said Tuohy. “Canvey contacted Barking and I have always had a good relationship with the boys and we ended on good terms.

“I enjoyed it there before and maybe left a bit hastily. I had a lot going on but I am glad to be back now.

“If we win our games in hand we will be in a really strong position. It may be a case of keeping an eye on other results but we just have to win our matches.

“I have gone back to help the team go up. I only scored once at Barking and I am keen to get scoring again. It didn’t work out there but I know I will score goals.

“I need to get in the side first and that won’t be easy, but I am confident I will be able to contribute.”

Tuohy first signed for the club from AFC Hornchurch ahead of the 2015/16 season, scoring 25 goals in his first season and earning himself a place in the Ryman Premier League team of the year.

He has since played for AFC Hornchurch, Coggeshall United and Barking.
