BOWERS & Pitsea got back to winning ways by securing a 2-0 victory over AFC Sudbury.

Goals from Ben Sartain and David Knight either side of half-time allowed Rob Small’s side to notch a valuable three points at the Len Salmon Stadium.

The hosts looked to stamp their authority early, having been 4-0 down at half-time in the reverse fixture.

And Bowers started brightly. Fahad Nyanja’s right footed effort drifted wide of the target after Lewis Manor used his strength to turn and slot a fine pass behind the visitors’ backline inside the opening two minutes.

Callum Chafer was called into action when Sudbury captain Joe Whight sent a free kick from the halfway line goalwards, but the goalkeeper tipped the audacious attempt over the crossbar.

Phil Kelly sent a low strike wide of the target after Sudbury had cleared a Martyn Stokes free kick midway through the first half.

However, Bowers took the lead on 34 minutes as Manor slid the ball through to Sartain, who stroked the ball beyond Sudbury goalkeeper Paul Walker and into the back of the net.

Knight was inches away from doubling the home side’s advantage moments later, but the striker could not reach James Thomas’ dangerous cross.

However, Knight was to get his name on the scoresheet just four minutes after the break.

Nyanja pounced on a mistake by Ryan Horne and, although his cross was blocked, Knight was there to blast the ball home.

Jamie Dicks’ acrobatic volley was saved by Walker as Bowers looked to kill the game off.

Knight’s free kick was comfortably saved before Lewis Clark was forced off the pitch with what appeared to be a shoulder injury.

But Bowers were able to see out the remainder of the clash and seal another Isthmian North win.
