Alan Frederick Pocock

Alan Frederick POCOCK Alan sadly passed away at Basildon Hospital in March 2019. He is survived by Pauline, his beloved wife of 65 years, five children and six grandchildren. Born in 1931 in West Ham and raised in Dagenham, after wartime evacuation Alan attended Dagenham County High School and was recognised for outstanding sporting abilities. After National Service he joined Fords and enjoyed a career as a metallurgist. He was instrumental in establishing the Basildon laboratory, leading his team for 35 years. He was secretary of the Basildon Labour Party for 55 years and governor of Kingswood Primary School for 40 years. A life-long West Ham supporter, Alan was still attending home games this season. His wide interests included genealogy and the Humanist society. A devoted family man; good-humoured; generous; wise and a great listener. His mantra was 'self-last'. He will be deeply missed by all.
