A SCHOOL held a fun day event with plenty of entertainment for the whole family.

William Read School, Long Road, Canvey held the event on Friday July 6.

This year the school parents and teachers association decided to change their existing format for the fair and hold it straight after school on a Friday which proved to be a huge success.

Despite the heat pupils and their families enjoyed a range of new and exciting attractions, including bungee trampolines, go karts, bouncy castles.

There were also traditional family favourites, such as hook-a-duck, toy tombola, coconut shy, face -painting and of course the opportunity to win £100 in our Grand Draw ,which was sponsored by Haydon Mechanical and Electrical.

Visitors to the event were entertained by a band called Stewart Archer music and Stephen Lane Estate Agent sponsored the barbecue, along with Canvey Supplies and Canvey Garden Centre.

A school spokesman said: "The school work very closely with our parents to create these outstanding community events and we believe it is a real strength of our school. Sarah Matthews and Hazel Robertson led a really strong team of parents and carers who organised the event in order to raise funds for the school and encourage families to spend time together in a fun way after school. We were amazed just how many parents brought their children along to enjoy this event - the total has yet to be counted but we hope that we will have raised enough to purchase some new equipment for our outside areas in school , books and furniture for our library and to subsidize valuable learning workshops for our pupils this year. It is events like this which make William Read the excellent school it is working hard with our local community for the benefit of our pupils."
