THURROCK'S MP has come under fire nationally for joking about "jumping off Beachy Head".
Yesterday, it was announced that MP Jackie Doyle-Price would become the first suicide prevention minister.
Four years ago, the Thurrock Gazette front page carried the story that the MP "would sooner jump off Beachy Head than join UKIP."
At the time, she told the Gazette: "I would sooner jump off Beachy Head than join UKIP.
"I am a Conservative. I have never run away from a fight and I am not going to start now.
"The stakes are too high. This country cannot afford another Labour Government."
National media have now picked up on the comments, questioning whether they are appropriate considering her new role.
Ms Doyle-Price has been contacted for comment.
