Police have issued a fresh appeal for information after a man was seen fleeing the scene of a fatal crash.

Detectives investigating the collision in Blue Mills Hill, Wickham Bishops, want to speak to a man who was reportedly running from a vehicle involved in the crash.

Inspector Rob Brettell, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “There is a still a key witness outstanding in this collision who we believe was in one of the vehicles involved and fled the scene.

“We are still looking to identify him and we would like to speak to anyone who has information about this individual or saw him leaving the collision.”

David Jones, 39, from Southminster, was killed following the crash, which happened some time around 11pm on Wednesday, October 10.

Marcus Wood, 21, of The Street, Terling, is due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, November 9, having been charged with dangerous driving, escaping lawful custody and perverting the course of justice.

A 54-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the incident has been released on bail to November 6.

An 18 year-old woman from Witham, an 18-year-old woman from Colchester, and a 17-year-old boy from Maldon arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving have been released under investigation pending ongoing enquiries.

A 31-year-old man from Heybridge on suspicion of perverting the cause of justice and assisting offenders has been released without charge.
