Thurrock has a new world champion kick-boxer after teenage Marley Mason put in a terrific display to be crowned world amateur lightweight champion.

Mason, 18, who is also a waiter at Orsett Hall, defeated Irishman Martin Kenny in Milton Keynes in front of a huge crowd.

Kenny, a former Irish champion, was fancied by many as he is 17 years Mason’s senior but he was sent to the canvas twice during the fight.

The former St Clere’s School pupil won the 60kg bout following a unanimous decision in his favour by the judges.
