TWO thugs attempted to break into a Canvey wig shop, only to be chased off by neighbouring shop owners.

The men were seen on CCTV trying to kick down the door of Angel Wigs on Furtherwick Road in broad daylight at about 9am but were unsuccessful in their attempts to break-in.

The duo were quickly spotted by neighbouring business owners who dashed from their shops to chase them off.

Angel Wigs owner Julie Harris, 57, from Canvey, was left bemused by the raid, as there is no cash left in the building.

The only goods kept in the store were an array of lavish wigs.

She said: “I came into work this morning and someone from one of the shops down the road said I’d better look at my CCTV as he had seen the men trying to get into my shop, but had luckily scared them off.

“I just don’t know what they think they were going to get – a wig?

“The police are going to circulate the pictures, so they can be caught.

“I’m a small business trying to make a living, I don’t know what they thought they had to gain – there’s no cash on the premises.”

Mrs Harris had already made plans to close the shop, but is continuing to run the business from her Canvey home.

And she said incidents like this make her even happier she is shutting up shop.

She added: “I’m glad to be moving from the shop now. I’ll be carrying on my business from home.

“All my customers can reach my on the same number and through my Facebook page.

“I just hope the men are caught to stop them doing the same or worse to another shop.”

The business owner has now released the CCTV in the hope the culprits can be identified and bought to justice, before any other businesses fall victim.

Mrs Harris posted the CCTV to Facebook with the message: “Does anyone recognise these two guys who tried to break into Angel Wigs at 8.50 this morning? The police were on the island looking for them on Friday.

“They have been clearly seen on a number of cameras around the island.

“Please contact the shop or the police if you know who they are.”
