A TEEN was thrown from a van during a police chase.

The white Ford Transit van was seen in Ferry Road, Benfleet, shortly before 8.40pm on September 23.

It failed to stop for police and a pursuit was authorised.

Before it stopped, a 17-year-old girl fell from the van in Dinant Avenue, Canvey.

She was taken to hospital with multiple injuries and has since been discharged, but continues to receive treatment.

The van stopped in Southwalters, Canvey, and a 20-year-old man from Canvey was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a vehicle and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

The van had been reported stolen from Upminster Trading Park in Warley Street, Upminster, on August 15.

When it was located, it had number plates that had been stolen from another van in Link Road, Canvey, on September 21.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the van being driven in the Benfleet and Canvey areas between 8.40pm and 9.15pm on September 23.
