Hands up if you’re heaving a sigh of relief that half-term is over?

I can’t believe I actually fall into this category all of a sudden.

But after six weeks of Sonny Jim going to pre-school and me having a proper few hours to get stuff done without a toy car “going over mum” or constant demands for a “snack, snack?!” I really missed his pre-school sessions.

And he did too.

The thing with being a stay at home mum (or indeed a work from home mum) is that so much of your child’s development and fun and entertainment comes down to you.

Which is, most of the time, wonderful.

But it does mean that you can often worry that you aren’t “doing” enough with them.

That your brain is constantly trying to think of new fun things to do, when, in all honesty, your child would just rather sit and watch episode after episode of Fireman Sam.

Sonny Jim’s pre-school sessions are bringing him on so much.

Just by being there his social skills are improving. He’s gaining more confidence.

He’s becoming more independent.

And that’s without all the super fun stuff that the staff actually do with him. Messy stuff that often we don’t do at home because, quite frankly, the tidying up isn’t worth the approximately four minutes of fun.

While he was off for his first half-term break I found myself feeling under so much more pressure to provide all that his pre-school usually does.

I felt more guilty about us having a lazy afternoon in the warm with him.

And the other downside is that everyone is also off school too.

So lots of the places you’d usually take a toddler to, for him to let off some steam (yes, soft play I’m looking at you) are extra busy and full of bigger kids.

It all makes for one very tired mummy!
