A TALENTED schoolgirl who has an inoperable brain tumour has penned a book of her favourite baking recipes to raise funds to fight the condition.

Littlegarth School pupil Lizzie Bramall, nine, worked on her book, Keep Baking, whilst undergoing radiotherapy and drug treatment for the tumour in an attempt to stop it spreading.

And despite her deteriorating health she will see the book in print and on sale in the run-up to Christmas, with the proceeds going to Lizzie's Fund - which supports the Brain Tumour Charity.

The book features Lizzie's friends' and family's favourite sweet treats as well as recipes from Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain and Junior Bake Off winner Nikki Lilly. Noel Edmunds, of House Party and Deal or No Deal fame, also wrote the foreword to the book.

Lizzie, who lives in Nayland, says baking helped her stay positive after her diagnosis in February.

She said: "I have always loved baking. I have lots of happy early memories of being busy in the kitchen, baking and decorating cakes.

“When I found out that I had a brain tumour, I thought it was lucky that I could still do my favourite hobby and that I could keep baking.”

However her treatment did eventually take its toll and she lost her appetite for cakes during radiotherapy.

"Even when my taste buds changed and I lost my sweet tooth I still liked baking cakes for others even though I didn’t like to eat them myself," she said.

“I also like being able to take baking presents as a thank you to people who help me.”

Since starting fundraising with a bake sale at her school in March, Lizzie's Fund has collected an incredible £88,000 for the charity, and with some celebrity backers it is hoped the book can boost this total significantly.

Mum Sally said: "Lizzie’s greatest passion is baking and it has been since she was very little.

"I have photos of her sitting on the kitchen floor with a bowl and a wooden spoon when she was two.

“Keep Baking was a wonderful project to focus on over the summer and we are all so proud to see the book now it’s in print.”

The book will be available at most good retailers in the lead up to Christmas.
