A FATHER has blasted a crook who attempted to break into his home as his partner and their three-year-old child slept.

Scott Wheeler, of Canvey Road, shared CCTV footage of the crook on social media, which sees a man walking around the couple’s garden, before checking to see if the back doors were unlocked.

Luckily, nothing was taken as the man couldn’t gain access to the house.

Mr Wheeler has shared the images in the hope someone will recognise the man - and prevent him burgling other homes.

He said: “If anyone know who this cretin is, at 5.36am today he was in my garden trying my doors while my missis and three-year-old are asleep, please report him.”

The attempted burglary is one of five incidents on Canvey within the space of three days from Friday to Sunday.

The other incidents on the island over the weekend include a burglary in Leigh Road, two burglaries on the same day in The Fielders, and reports of an attempted break-in of Co-op store in Canvey Road.

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: “Burglars broke into a home in Leigh Road, Canvey, sometime between 2.45pm and 10.20pm on Friday.

“They stole jewellery and a three figure sum of cash.

“Enquiries are ongoing.

“A home in The Fielders, Canvey, was also broken into sometime between 6pm and 8.10pm on Friday. Jewellery was stolen.

“Another home in The Fielders was broken into between 2.50pm and 9.05pm on the same day where jewellery was also stolen.

“The burglaries are believed to be linked and enquiries are ongoing.

“We were contacted shortly before 10.10pm on Saturday with reports of a group of people attempting to break into the Co-op food store in Canvey Road.

“Officers attended and found the shop was secure and no trace of anyone acting suspiciously.”
