POLICE are no longer looking to identify a man in connection with an assault at a bar, in Leigh.

A CCTV image was circulated after a 37-year-old woman from Leigh, reported she had been assaulted by the man, thought to be in his 20’s, in Ugo’s Café Bar, on Broadway West, on Saturday, November 10.

The image was then circulated further on social media where it was shared around 2,000 times.

The woman claims the man threw her across the room where she hit a table, leaving her with bruises and swelling on her arms and legs.

Police now say the man is “assisting police with their enquiries”.

A spokesman for Ugo’s had said they have a “zero-tolerance policy to violence”, and claimed that after running the bar for over 20 years, they had “never come across any trouble or incident of this kind before”, insisting that they are a family-friendly bar and a “pillar of the community”.

The 37-year-old woman however, claimed the man was using rude and derogatory language towards her and her friends, and after asking him to leave, he allegedly assaulted her.

She stated she was very frightened and anxious about what she alleges happened to her.
