A man has been left with life changing injuries after being hit by a car.

The victim, a man aged in his 30s, is believed to have been lying in the road at around 1.30am when the incident occurred in Victoria Road, Stanford-le-Hope this morning.

It is believed he was lying in the road at around 1.30am when the crash happened.

He has been taken to hospital in a stable condition, but his injuries are believed to be life-changing.

The car is thought to be a white or light-coloured hatchback and failed to stop at the scene.

Officers are appealing for the driver of this vehicle to come forward and assist with our enquiries.

Road closures are currently in place on Victoria Road and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes where possible.

Roads from Gentry Close to the railway station remain open.

Police enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage of this area to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit through 101 quoting incident number 91 of 31/12.
