PLYMOUTH Argyle manager Derek Adams felt Southend United were flattered by the final score-line at Roots Hall on Saturday.
The Pilgrims led 3-0 heading into the final five minutes before both Simon Cox and Charlie Kelman bagged goals for Blues.
But Adams felt Plymouth were by far the better team.
“It was a sweet performance from us and we were better than Southend from the start to the finish of the game,” said Adams.
“They got a penalty kick and scored a wonderful opportunist goal to get it to 3-2 but over the 90 minutes, we were far better than Southend and I think the final score-line flattered them.”
Despite the win, Plymouth remain second from bottom in the standings.
But Adams was encouraged by the manner of Argyle’s win.
“It was a really sweet victory for us coming here,” said the Scotsman.
“Every single one of them that played in the game put in top performances.”
And Adams was particularly pleased to see Freddie Ladapo score on his return to the Shrimpers.
“I’m delighted for Freddie,” said Adams.
“I took him off towards the end so he could get the adulation of the supporters and it showed what Southend are missing.
“I’ve been able to get him working in a system of play which enabled him to do well.
“He’s been exceptional for us and he’s led the line well. He’s ran in behind and he could have had a hat-trick in the end.
“We’ll enjoy this win but we won’t be getting carried away about it.”
