HUNDREDS of people flocked to the brand new Canvey Marks and Spencer Foodhall and took advantage of some fantastic giveaways.

The new store which opened yesterday, at the island’s new Roscommon Way retail park, offered the first 200 customers a golden ticket.

These will include £5 and £20 off vouchers, as well as a £200 gift voucher and two £100 gift vouchers.

Echo:

Lucky couple, Mr and Mrs Tickell, from Canvey, were thrilled to be the winners of the £200 gift card.

Mrs Tickell, said: “We thought we’d come and have a look today and when we saw how big the queue was we nearly turned back, but I’m very glad we didn’t.”

The store was officially opened by Canvey mayor Barry Campagna and Castle Point mayor Clive Walter.

Councillor Campagna said: “We’ve been waiting for a long time for M&S to arrive and hopefully it will encourage others to come to the region.

“I think the people of Canvey will really support the new store and I’m extremely pleased to be here.

“My main job is to promote Canvey and M&S coming here has been a great boost for the area.”
