A GROUP of teenage yobs threw a glass bottle at an innocent cyclist before threatening and kicking glass at her.

The mum-of-two cycled passed the thugs in Furtherwick Road, on Canvey, and was left horrified by what happened next.

The victim, who the Echo has agreed not to name, said: “I was riding my bike past Pizza 38 just minding my own business and saw a group of kids but I avoided eye contact.

“I could not help notice a glass bottle in someone’s hand pointing towards the bollards.

“I slowed down but this kid threw it, so I swerved what glass I could see only for this group of boys - about 12 of them - to start kicking the glass at me as I am trying to go past.

“They were heckling and saying: ‘You’re going to have a puncture b***h!’.

“I stopped and looked at them in disgust and utter horror.

“I then phoned the police and said a group of kids had started on me and these thugs turned and said to me: ‘We ain’t kids!’

“I was told not to go back that way as they [the police] were worried about my safety.”

The woman has since claimed businesses in the area are partly to blame for not doing more to deter antisocial behaviour.

Since posting of her ordeal on Facebook, many people have reached out to the woman and advised her to get in touch with Canvey Patrol Group - a group of volunteers who patrol the streets to deter any crime or antisocial behaviour.

She added: “I am just wondering why these businesses allow this antisocial behaviour day and night as I wouldn’t.

“I have gone past these groups load of times before and they have never started but I guess they were bored or just having a laugh.

“These horrible groups of boys and girls are seriously a menace to our a society.”

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: “We received a call at around 4.30pm, on Sunday, January 27, from a cyclist reporting antisocial behaviour in Furtherwick Road, Canvey.

“The woman reported that a group of young people had thrown bottles at her. She was not injured and her bike was not damaged.”

Anyone with information should call Canvey police station on 101.
