A community has shared its concerns after a pedestrian was hit by car yesterday on Canvey.

Witnesses reported a heavy police presence, including armed officers, and ambulances at the scene at about 11.30am on the corner of Little Gypps Road.

Reports suggest a person was hit by a car but the nature of the incident is yet to be confirmed by Essex Police.

A spokesperson from the ambulance service said: "We were called at 11.30am yesterday with reports of a collision in Little Gypps Road, Canvey.

"We sent an ambulance and ambulance officer to the scene.

"One patient was taken to Southend Hospital for further treatment."

Islanders have also raised their concerns, after residents reporting to have seen armed police at the scene of the incident.

One resident, a 30-year-old woman from Canvey, said: "I didn't see anything, but my mum told me she saw what happened.

"She lives nearby on Linden Way, so she saw the ambulance, police and armed police at the scene."

Essex Police has been contacted for comment.
