A BUILDER is up for an award after transforming the life of a disabled man.

Dave Pierce, of Dave Pierce Carpentry, is in line to win the MyBuilder Job of the Year award for his work in transforming Marian Selby and her husband’s back garden, in Leigh.

Mr Selby developed polio aged five, which left him disabled.

However, throughout his adult life, he had always been able to access his garden pond, reserved for his beloved koi fish.

However, three years ago his disability worsened and he became permanently wheelchair-bound.

Wife Marian said: “I’m nominating Dave on behalf of my 75-year-old husband, who had polio when he was five which left him disabled.

“His passion has been his garden and his koi fish pond, which he was able to access until three years ago, when he became wheelchair-bound permanently.

“This stopped him getting down to his beloved garden, because there were steps leading to it.”

She added: “Myself and my husband spoke to Dave to see if he could solve the problem.

“He said he could, and he has built us a fantastic decking area which is all level and has got the ramps needed to go to the garden area.

“I can not express how much this has improved my husband’s life.

“Dave was so thoughtful about my husband’s needs, and is a very nice man.

“I would like to thank him for giving my husband his quality of life back.”

Speaking on the nationwide competition, Ryan Notz, MyBuilder CEO and Founder said: “Tradesmen up and down the country are hard at work every day doing amazing jobs in people’s homes.

“Here at MyBuilder, we’re always looking for ways to celebrate the work they do, and the Job of the Year competition is our chance to congratulate those that went the extra mile.”

More than 1,400 homeowners from all over the UK have already entered the competition.

Winners will receive £5,000 to be shared between the tradesperson and homeowner.
