MP John Baron has vowed to get involved and take further action if abuse allegations at a Basildon care home turn out to be true.

He spoke out as inspectors concluded their emergency probe of Ghyll Grove care home, in Ghyllgrove, where police continue to investigate.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) carried out the inspection after nine staff were suspended amid abuse allegations.

The inspection took place over two days and has now finished.

Meanwhile, Mr Baron, MP for Basildon and Billericay, promised to keep a close eye on the outcome.

He said: “These allegations are serious and concerning, and I have been in contact with the care home company, the Care Quality Commission and Essex Police. Investigations must be allowed to continue and run their full course, and I will be keeping a close eye on the outcome.

“Further action is essential if these allegations are substantiated.”

A spokesman for the CQC confirmed inspectors are reviewing the information and that a report would be published at a later unconfirmed date.

The inspection comes as the care home operator HC-One suspended nine members of staff after abuse allegations were made to the police.

The investigation came after a family member of a resident was concerned with CCTV footage obtained by a private camera.

The incident took place in Kennett House - one of the four wards - and three carers were immediately suspended.

HC-One then conducted a full review of the care provided at this ward and a further six members of staff, including three managers, were suspended.

A police inspection is ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage.

After their previous inspection, the report of which was published in June 2017, the care home was rated good when the care home was operated by Bupa.
