A CONSULTATION has been launched on polling stations across Colchester.

Colchester Council is asking residents for their opinions during a six-week online consultation.

The move seeks to find out if areas and venues where residents go to vote in elections are suitable.

The online consultation runs until April 15.

The polling station at Praiseway Church in Straight Road is under review and it is proposed Peldon and Wigborough Community Hall will become the polling station for Great Wigborough and Little Wigborough in place of the Essex Wildlife Trust at Abbotts Hall Farm.

A new polling station is being sought for Copford after it was deemed the village hall was no longer suitable.

Home Farm School in Prettygate ward is under review as is Friars Grove Primary School in St John’s and St Anne’s ward.

People who formerly voted at the former Alderman Blaxill School will be invited to vote at the Shrub End Social Centre.

Results of the consultation will go the council’s Governance and Audit Committee in June, who will agree final proposals and make recommendations to July’s Full Council meeting.

Any changes to which come about as a result of the review will come into force in December and will be implemented for the first time at the council elections in May 2020.

Adrian Pritchard, returning officer, said: “It’s important that polling districts and polling places work for everyone in the borough and this consultation is an important opportunity for them to have their say on the locations and places used for voting for next year’s local elections and beyond.”

The council is required to carry out a review every five years and this last took place in 2015.
