Recent events have included children from Westerings Primary Academy, in Hockley, who worked to clear the streets surrounding their school.

The eco team at Holt Farm Junior School also tidied up the Magnolia Nature Reserve in Hawkwell.

As well as this, members of the 1st Rayleigh Cubs joined together to clear Kenilworth Gardens, in Rayleigh.

Residents even volunteered their time to take part in the movement, by cleaning the area surrounding shops in Hawkwell as well as clearing streets and parks in Canewdon and Great Wakering.

Those who took part took to social media using the #CommunityLitterPick, showcasing their efforts and increasing awareness for the movement.

Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Councillor Arthur Williams, said: “It’s great to see the movement gaining pace, this is truly a sign of a healthy and vibrant community as so many residents have been working to take care of their surroundings.

"I would like to thank them for their efforts, and thank the ward councillors that have organised events.

“If your community or school would like to organise a litter pick we are happy to support your efforts and will provide equipment, please just contact the council.”
