A MAN is preparing to set a new world record for running a race in fancy dress.

Steven Robinson, 30, from Thundersley, will be attempting to set a new Guinness World record when he embarks on the London Landmarks Half Marathon dressed as the cancer awareness ribbon.

He will be running to raise money and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The company managing director is a regular runner and has raised money for various charities in the past.

With one of his close friends currently fighting Hodgkins Lymphoma, Macmillan was an obvious choice.

The ribbon used for awareness of Hodgkins is violet, and Steven has found a local seamstress to make the costume for his half marathon record attempt.

Steven said: “I found someone via yellow pages to make the costume, but haven’t done a dress rehearsal yet running in the ribbon. I’ll do a trial before the race, but want to keep the costume mostly for the day of the event.

"I entered the London Landmarks Half Marathon after looking through races to find a different event, that would allow me to try and set a record and raise awareness for Hodgkins Lymphoma”.

On Sunday March 24, Steven will be joining 13,000 other runners to run the 13.1 mile course, which weaves through the Capital’s most famous landmarks including Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Shard, the Tower of London and the London Eye, plus a number of quirky and lesser known ones.

The inaugural edition of the London Landmarks Half Marathon in March 2018 was hailed a huge success, raising £4.98m for over 100 charities. The 2019 edition will see 3,000 additional runners take part and has a target of raising £6m for charity. With charities at the forefront of the event, there is sure to be a lively atmosphere along the route, with over 170 cheer stations as well as entertainment, music and activities.
