A man was stabbed during an overnight attack.
It happened yesterday at 3.55am when he was attacked either in or near to his car in Eastleigh Road, Benfleet.
The victim, who is aged in his 30s, has been taken to hospital for his injuries.
He remains in a stable but critical condition.
A scene continues to remain in place and police have completed house to house and CCTV enquiries in the area.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We would urge anyone who notice any suspicious activity in the Eastleigh Road area before, during and after the incident.
"We would also like to hear from anyone who has any dash cam footage.
"If you have information, please call our Major Crime Team on 101 quoting crime reference 42/41391/19.
"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
