ECHOSPORT talks to Peterborough United fan Levi Crisp ahead of tomorrow’s game at London Road.

Peterborough are currently eighth in the table but what have you made of the season so far?

“The season has turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Although the reality is it’s been a carbon copy of the last three years.

“Start brightly, and then it goes downhill, ending in a mid-table finish. It looks very likely that is how this season will pan out as well.

“That said, another season in the top half of League One, it could have been worse. We have six wins from our last 28 League games so Southend fans should not be thinking they are coming to a team playing like they could finish in the play-offs. We have been poor for months.”

Despite that bad run, Peterborough are still eighth. Is there still a chance of the play-offs?

“Of course the play-offs can’t be ruled out, with us being just outside them, but nobody expects us to make them. Back-to-back defeats to the bottom two and then being outplayed by Coventry last week has ended most people’s expectations.

"That said, the battle for sixth place is quite an embarrassing spectacle from all involved, so you never know.”

What has been the reason for the bad run?

“Unfortunately, the good start proved to be a false hope. The season has steadily become a bit of a shambles.

“Our early top scorer, James Cummings, was filmed smashing up his TV and didn’t score a League goal again.

“Our most expensive defensive signing now has a four-year ban for missing a drugs test and we sacked Steve Evans, in part down to him and the chairman falling out.

“We replaced him with Fergie, who likes to play brave, attractive, passing football, to manage Steve Evans’ players, who do not. The results have been predictable. Although they were going rapidly downhill under Evans anyway.”

Who’s the dangerman?

“Marcus Maddison – a player who does very little for 89 minutes but then regularly comes up with a match-winning moment.

“He has scored or assisted almost all of our goals since the New Year. If he has an off day, we will struggle.”
