A DISTRAUGHT pensioner has been banned from complaining to Southend Airport about the planes ruining her life.

Janet Marchant’s family have lived in a bungalow on Wells Avenue since the 67-year-old’s grandfather built it in 1953.

But she claims the airport has taken over her life since planes started using a taxiway next to her back garden.

She claims the airport has ignored her complaints and instead banned her from accessing the airport website complaints system.

She also claims she has been told use of the taxiway and holding point outside her home will increase.

She said: “They restarted use of the planes from the terminal and planes are passing every five minutes now - around 50 planes a day. The noise and fumes are horrendous. I can’t go out into the garden because of the smell of the fumes, and I can’t even hear the telly because of the noise. The Ryanair planes are particularly noisy.

“My grandad built the bungalow in 1953 then my mum and dad lived here, as did I growing up.

“When my mum passed away seven years ago I moved back in here and I was planning to retire here - that was my dream.

“I am seriously having to consider whether I can stay here. It has taken over our lives - it’s very upsetting.

“Last month I was banned from making complaints online through their website but I am not going to stop, I have been down every avenue to stop this.

“They could have the taxiway on the other side away from the houses. They say it’s legal but is it morally right?”

A spokesman for London Southend Airport, said: “We appreciate the Wells Avenue properties were built close to the Charlie Taxiway, and are actively engaging with those residents through quarterly meetings and are actively investigating active measures to reduce noise.

"The airport has ambitious plans to grow, and will continue to work with the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure the airport remains safe and environmentally responsible for all our stakeholders.”
